A gem of the corundum family, Emerald is a twin of ruby and blue sapphire. It is found in green, golden, and orange colors, as well as in a colorless variety known as white sapphire.
Color: Emerald is found in a range of hues between greenish green and orangish green. Deep pure golden green without any tinge of orange is considered the best colour for a Emerald. Sometimes the green colour of the stone can be so pale that it can fall into the category of white sapphire.
Cut: Emerald is commonly found in oval cut to retain maximum weight as cutting the gem can take away the a great number of precious mineral out of it. It is also cut and faceted into a lot of frequent and fancy shapes like cushion cut, round, octagonal, square and so on for jewellery purposes.
Carat : Emeralds are usually located in all sizes up to 8-15cts. But clean large size gems with high quality bright golden green colour are uncommon and really priced.
